The IRS announced an expedited review and approval process for organizations seeking tax-exempt status to provide relief for victims of Hurricane Sandy. To benefit from this streamlined approval process, new organizations should enter “Disaster Relief, Hurricane Sandy” across the top of their Form 1023 [Application for Recognition of Exemption under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code].
